Why Pet Insurance?
As a practice we are aware of unexpected costs when your pet falls ill - and we can wholeheartedly recommend that you do take out Pet Insurance to help cover any unexpected costs that may arise.
In short, Pet Insurance, helps you to give your pet the treatment it deserves.
Things to consider when looking for an insurance provider:-
-
Is the company reputable?
-
Does the company specialise in pet insurance?
-
Have you compared the benefit levels and excesses between insurance providers?
-
Will the excess or premium increase each time a claim is made?
-
Will the company continue to cover your pet for ongoing conditions into its old age?
-
Will the company place exclusions at the policy's renewal anniversary for illness that has occurred in the previous policy year?
Different types of Pet Insurance available:
Not all pet insurance is the same so it is important to choose your policy wisely. Listed below are the 3 main types of policy available.
Lifetime/Covered for Life Policies:
-
Cover provided up to a set amount for veterinary fees each year which is renewed at the start of each policy year.
-
As long as policy is renewed - without a break - there is no time limit on how long you can claim for each illness or injury
-
Ideal cover for ongoing treatment for a condition such as diabetes or eczema
Time-limited Policies:
-
Cover is provided up to a maximum amount per condition.
-
There is a 12 month limit on how long you can claim for each condition. This means ongoing conditions such a diabetes will only be covered for the first 12 months.
-
After 12 months the condition you claimed for will be excluded from the policy.
Maximum Benefit:
-
Cover is provided up to a maximum amount per condition (eg £3,000) but there is no time limit on how long you can claim.
-
Once you have claimed up to the maximum amount (eg £3,000) you can no longer claim for that condition.
