Members of the Brentknoll Veterinary Centre team, represented the practice at this year’s Animals ‘r’ Magic event and what a day we had.
The annual fundraising event is organised and hosted by The Cinnamon Trust, a charity who work to improve the lives of the elderly and their pets. Each year, volunteers from the trust invite many local businesses, charities and animal related people to attend their fundraiser and run a stand in the Jinney Ring gardens.
The animal themed event, is a great way to educate the public about a wide range of animals. Local rescue shelters brought along rabbits, ex-racing greyhounds and even racing ferrets, all in the aid of teaching both children and grown ups about caring for animals the right way. Our staff went along with a stand selling our exciting range of pet toys and accessories, which went down really well with pet owners and the dog treats went down even better with the dogs that came along!
We also ran a raffle, raffling off two pet hampers filled with food, treats and toys for cats and dogs. These hampers were donated by clinical director Dave Fisher, and all proceeds raised went to Guide Dogs for the Blind.
Benny the Brentknoll mascot went along to join Jenni, Hayley and Jo on the stand (can you guess who was in the costume?). He kept the children amused dancing along to the songs being played by the DJ and handing out some vouchers for discounts at the practice. Even the real dogs seemed smitten with Benny… one even tried to steal his glove!
Whilst the event was great fun, it has a serious message and that is animal welfare. We were so pleased to speak to so many pet owners who are clearly passionate about their pet’s and we enjoyed learning more about animals we don’t see too often… the Alpaca’s were certainly a hit with our staff.
