On average we complete around 90 claim forms a month here at Brentknoll Vets. Each of these can take anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour to complete and involves reading through pages of clinical notes, correspondence with veterinary surgeons for clarification and to obtain clinical diagnosis’s. In many cases there are multiple conditions to be claimed for and our administrators must check each product/service to ensure it is claimed under the correct condition.
As you can imagine this all takes a lot of work and time; we employ an insurance administrator whose sole job is to ensure claim forms are completed accurately and quickly (usually within 7 – 10 working days.)
We feel that asking for the small fee of £8.00 is more than acceptable for the amount of work it takes to get your pet’s claim form submitted quickly and correctly. After all, if you were to ask a private doctor to do the same your admin fee would be considerably higher!
When you call to request a repeat prescription for your pet it takes time for the vets to read through previous consultation notes. They must then work out doses, medication changes, whether checks are due etc in order to provide your pet with the correct and most appropriate treatment. This sometimes requires research and referring to various medical resources which all takes time. Therefore we feel the small £3.28 charge is valid, you can avoid the charge by requesting your pet’s medication during your consultation with the vet as all charges are built into the consultation charge.

We are happy to offer advice over the phone when appropriate; however we cannot make medical diagnoses without examining your pet.
It is important that if your pet becomes unwell you seek medical attention from the experts rather than using internet based pet symptom checkers as these are not always accurate or run by certified veterinary professionals.
The vet may ask you to bring your pet back for a re-examination or further treatment, we will never ask you to return unnecessarily and if the vet is happy with your pet’s progress they will be signed off.
If you feel your pet no longer requires a re-examination appointment that has already been booked please call the practice to cancel it so that we can offer your appointment to someone else and report back to the vet.
Alternatively the vet may ask you to call us with a progress report, which can be given to a member of the client care team to pass on to the vet.
The vet may refuse a repeat prescription in some cases because a re-examination is due, prescription medication can only be given to animals under our care, this means they must have been seen by a vet within the last 6 months.
For some medical conditions it may be necessary to see your pet more frequently, if you are unsure please speak to the vet. It is important that if your pet is on medication you order it before you run out, this allows us time to order items in if necessary.
If you should choose to leave us and use another vet we are more than happy to pass your pet’s clinical records on to the new vet upon their request.
Please note that clinical records are not handed out to clients, if you have any queries please forward them to the clinical director Mr D Fisher.
As a veterinary practice we have a duty of care to offer treatment and pain relief to animals in the case of an emergency; however we are entitled to charge for these services. If your pet requires treatment and you know you are unable to pay you must state this at the time of booking an appointment so that we can make arrangements accordingly.
Please note we do not offer financial assistance to those on financial support, contact the pdsa if you require help with your vet bills.
We pride ourselves on offering a high level service at an affordable price; all of our vets are extremely skilled and highly qualified in various areas of Veterinary medicine.
As well as excellent staff we offer a modern and well equipped practice with first-rate facilities, so much so that we offer a successful referral service where pets are sent to us by other practices for treatment.
Should you need to cancel an appointment please contact the practice on 01905 355938 as soon as possible so that we may offer your time to someone else.
If you need to rearrange an appointment simply call the practice and we will find a suitable alternative, please note that we may recommend you see the same vet for ongoing conditions to ensure continuity in your pet’s treatment.
In order to purchase many medications online you will need a prescription from the vet, we are happy to provide you with a written prescription upon request providing your pet must have seen the vet within the last 6 months.
Please note there is a charge for this service (contact us for correct charges at the time.) We cannot stress the importance of buying online medication from a reputable provider, we recommend using websites displaying the VMD registered logo for quality assured products; beware of internet fakes and hidden charges.
No, we are an appointment only practice; if you choose to bring your pet to us without an appointment and it is not a medical emergency you may be asked to come back at another time once an appointment has been made.
If you have an emergency calling first will help us ensure we have the staff and equipment ready for your arrival so please help us help you by calling in advance.
