We understand that sometimes pet owners may wish to seek a second opinion to discuss their pet’s care, often this is to simply confirm what your usual vet has said or sometimes you may seek additional advice.
As a practice we are happy to offer second opinion consultation with our senior veterinary surgeons.
Dave Fisher is our senior vet and has a particular interest in Cardiology (heart) conditions, lung and breathing problems and CT digital imaging. He holds the following qualifications : BVetMed, CertSAC, CertSAM, MRCVS, RCVS Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Cardiology and Small Animal Medicine.
Carl Thompson has a particular interest in orthopedics. He holds the following qualifications : MRCVS BVetMed (Hons), PGCertSAS, RCVS Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Surgery
As a second opinion client you have every right to return to your usual veterinary practice after your appointment with us. Our vets will assess your pet’s condition and make our recommendations for ongoing treatment if necessary, we are happy to discuss the case with your usual practice.
You do not have to tell your usual veterinary practice that you are coming for a second opinion, however, it is beneficial for our vets to contact them and obtain any clinical history, X-rays, lab results etc that may help us with the assessment of your pet. This will also avoid us duplicating tests and prevents conflicting treatments, so it is in your pet’s best interest to notify your usual vet (they won’t be offended, it’s perfectly normal).
After the second opinion, you may be referred back to your own vet or you may choose to continue treatment with another vet, this is your choice as a pet owner.
